Why do the girls have such short hair?
Frequently, when new young kids come in to the orphan homes, they are arriving from filthy slums or areas where they've had to live on the streets. The conditions they were in or unhealthy and hygiene is a major issue. Often, young girls with long hair will be infested the with head lice. In order to get control of the infestations, home currents were cut their hair short.

Blossoms in the dirt.
I've worked in hundreds of orphan situations in a lot of countries, but this experience was pleasantly unique. As we approached the home for the first time, there was a wonderful aroma of fresh cut flowers. As we walked down the hill toward the home, we saw the source. In the hardened dark clay walkway to the home door the children had used blossoms to write the words "Welcome to you" . From there, there was a path of pedals that lead to the door. I have no idea what the blossoms were, but the smell was huge. It was fascinating and so memorable. I couldn't help by think of the symbolism of the blossom coming before the fruit and God loves the fruit. It's moments like that that make serving our Lord so precious.

People in the Area
I feel compelled to make the point that at no time did I feel anything but friendship and warmth in this slight size village. It still amazes me that radicals set this lovely home on fire. I've heard from our leaders that the villagers were just as upset as we were about the violence against children. I know that many times, things that evil means to do harm turn out to be a blessing from God. Join me in praying that the mutual disgust the villagers and the Warm Blankets team had for the unnecessary actions of a few will be a bond through which the Gospel will spread.

We do not allow unaccompanied visits, but if the situation is right, we can sometimes free up indigenous leaders, drivers, and translators should you want to include a visit to the homes in combination with other plans you may have in India.
